San Gabriel Valley Symphony

The Program

The San Gabriel Valley Symphony is a professional orchestra created by working musicians and local leaders to reflect and serve the San Gabriel Valley—focusing on community engagement and social impact. Its mission is to show the next generation in the SGV that a career in the arts is not only possible, but capable of creating real change in their communities and beyond.

Founded in 2025 as a special initiative of ABG and in living memory of the victims of the Monterey Park mass shooting, the San Gabriel Valley Symphony is dedicated to community resilience and the transformative power of music.

The Symphony is a collaborative effort with musicians, civic leaders, arts advocates and community stakeholders to redefine symphonic music and establish the San Gabriel Valley as an epicenter for the arts. Under the shared leadership of Artistic Director Alex Deng and Music Director Henry Shin, the SGV Symphony brings together professional musicians from Los Angeles, SGV and beyond.  Our programming blends classical masterworks with music by emerging composers in film, television, video games, and contemporary genres—reflecting the diverse voices and stories of the community we serve.

The Community

ABG is so thankful to partner with the San Gabriel Valley Mission Playhouse—a vessel for the creation of memories. Nestled in the historic San Gabriel Mission District, the Mission Playhouse has been a hub of the theatre scene since opening its doors in 1927. The Mission Playhouse embraces its role as a focal point for the arts both within our community and far beyond by providing unparalleled service and professionalism. For many in the San Gabriel community, the Mission Playhouse has become an integral part of their lives. From childhood recitals, high school graduations, holiday shows, weddings and multi-cultural spectaculars; the Mission Playhouse is dedicated to not only engaging but inspiring the vibrant community and beyond. The Mission Playhouse works in cooperation with a community of local and international artists striving to bring their artistic visions to fruition while maximizing public engagement. ABG is incredibly excited to call the Mission Playhouse its home!
